2001 | The Visit | Collector’s Edition 1 of 2,500 | First Edition First Printing | Mark Kimball Moulton & Susan Winget
A special 2001 first edition, first printing Collector’s Edition of The Visit: The Delightful History and Origin of “The Night Before Christmas,” written by Mark Kimball Moulton and beautifully illustrated by Susan Winget.
Rather than simply retelling The Night Before Christmas, this book tells the story behind the beloved Christmas poem and the family history surrounding its creation. The account was passed down through the family of Clement Clarke Moore and recalled by his great-great-granddaughter, Dinghy Sharp. The story is written in verse and paired with richly detailed, nostalgic Christmas illustrations throughout.
What makes this copy especially fun is that it is one of only 2,500 specially produced Collector’s Editions from the first printing of the first edition. Each was individually numbered and given an embossed gold seal. This copy is hand-numbered 1,934 of 2,500. The copyright page also shows the number line ending in 2, which corresponds with the special collector issue documentation identifying these as part of the first printing.
A beautiful Christmas coffee-table book, family read-aloud, homeschool holiday resource, or collectible addition to a Christmas library. The illustrations have a wonderfully old-fashioned, heirloom feel even though the book was published in 2001.
