1961 | Cupola House | Mabel Leigh Hunt | First Edition | Illustrated Hardcover
A lovely and increasingly hard to find vintage children’s book, Cupola House follows four Quaker children in the early 1900s as they work to raise money to rebuild the cupola of their unusual family home after it is damaged by fire. It blends family life, history, adventure, and old fashioned resourcefulness in the kind of story that feels made for reading aloud. The book was written by Mabel Leigh Hunt and illustrated by Nora S. Unwin.
This copy is especially nice because the copyright page clearly states First Edition, with a 1961 copyright date. It is the original J. B. Lippincott hardcover edition.
Condition:
Good vintage condition. Brown cloth hardcover with visible rubbing, scuffing, and general shelf wear. Pages show normal age toning but are clean and securely bound. No dust jacket.
There is currently a 1961 hardcover without a dust jacket listed through ThriftBooks for about $70, so this is one of those books where the available asking prices can get surprisingly high because copies are not abundant.
