2011 The Shadows | The Books of Elsewhere #1 by Jacqueline West | First Scholastic Printing Paperback
The first book in Jacqueline West’s The Books of Elsewhere series, a spooky middle grade fantasy about eleven year old Olive, who moves into an old Victorian house filled with strange paintings that seem to hide more than just pictures. When Olive discovers a pair of magical spectacles that allow her to step inside the paintings, she begins uncovering the secrets of the house and the mysterious world of Elsewhere.
Illustrated by Poly Bernatene, The Shadows is a great pick for readers who like eerie old houses, hidden worlds, magic, mysteries, and slightly creepy adventures without being full horror.
This copy states First Scholastic Printing, September 2011 and has a complete number line down to 1. That means it is the first printing of the Scholastic edition, not the original first edition of the book, which was published by Dial Books in 2010.
