A vintage hardcover edition of The Album by Mary Roberts Rinehart, one of the major American mystery writers of the early 20th century. First published in 1933, The Album is a classic closed-circle mystery set among the residents of Crescent Place, an old-fashioned enclave of Victorian homes hiding long-standing feuds, secrets, and scandals. When a wealthy widow is brutally murdered, criminologist Herbert Ranchester Dean becomes involved in unraveling a case that ultimately grows far more complicated than a single death. Modern descriptions of the novel note that the mystery centers on four murders and clues hidden in an album.
Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with significant age-related wear. Rust/orange cloth boards with gilt decoration and lettering. The spine shows rubbing, fraying and loss at the head, along with additional edge and corner wear. Interior pages have age-toning and scattered foxing/staining, particularly around the endpapers.
There is also a dated handwritten presentation inscription from Christmas 1941 on the front endpaper.
