1927 Code of Jewish Law Kitzur Schulchan Aruch by Rabbi Solomon Ganzfried Revised Edition Hardcover

A nearly 100-year-old English-language edition of Code of Jewish Law (Kitzur Schulchan Aruch), a compilation of traditional Jewish laws and customs by Rabbi Solomon Ganzfried, translated by Hyman E. Goldin. This revised edition was published in New York by the Hebrew Publishing Company and carries a 1927 copyright date.

Originally written in the 19th century, the Kitzur Schulchan Aruch was designed as a practical, condensed guide to everyday Jewish religious observance. It covers a wide range of daily life, including prayer, Sabbath observance, blessings, holidays, food, business practices, mourning, marriage, religious customs, and personal conduct. This copy is especially interesting as an early English translation and offers a glimpse into how Jewish law and practice were presented to English-speaking readers in the early 20th century.

This particular copy also has a wonderful piece of provenance inside. A handwritten presentation inscription reads, “Presented to Adelaide Saltz in grateful appreciation by Hebrew Congregation of Mt. Freedom, June 11, 1953.” It is not an author-signed copy, but the inscription gives the book a tangible history and connects it to an actual congregation more than 70 years ago.

Condition: Fair vintage condition. This is a heavily loved copy with substantial age and exterior wear. The black boards show rubbing, worn corners and edges, fraying at the head and tail of the spine, fading to the gilt lettering, and separation and wear along portions of the outer binding. Pages show expected toning and occasional age-related spotting. The handwritten 1953 presentation inscription is present on the front endpaper. Please review all photos carefully for condition. This copy is best appreciated as an approximately century-old historical and religious volume rather than a pristine collectible.
