1972 | King’s Handbook of the United States 1896 | Volume 1 | Moses King | Illustrated Reference Hardcover
A fascinating reissue of a massive late 19th century American reference work. King’s Handbook of the United States 1896 was first planned and edited by Moses King, with text by M. F. Sweetser, and this Volume 1 was reissued in 1972 by Benjamin Blom Inc.
The original work is essentially a richly illustrated snapshot of the United States at the end of the 1800s, with state by state histories, population figures, industries, cities, landmarks, transportation, and other statistics from the period. The original edition contained more than 2,600 illustrations, making this especially fun to browse for anyone interested in American history, genealogy, vintage geography, or how the country described itself in the 1890s.
Condition:
Good vintage condition. Red cloth hardcover with white spine lettering. Light shelf wear and rubbing to the covers, with some fading and wear to the spine lettering.
