1953 | The Dragon in New Albion | S. H. Paxton | Second Printing Vintage Hardcover

$109.96 MXN (plus tax)

A vintage 1953 juvenile historical novel centered around Sir Francis Drake’s landing in what was then called New Albion, along the California coast. The story follows young Harry Foulkes, a member of Drake’s crew, as he becomes caught up in threats of Spanish attack, questions of loyalty, and life among Indigenous communities after Drake’s arrival. It blends real historical figures and events with fictional adventure, making it an interesting piece of midcentury historical fiction for younger readers. Contemporary reviews specifically described it as a story built around Drake’s California stopover and Harry’s experiences after being left behind as Drake’s representative.

This copy was published by Little, Brown and Company in 1953 and is explicitly marked Second Printing on the copyright page. It is also illustrated by John C. Wonsetler, whose work appeared in numerous midcentury books for young readers.
