1891 | Literary Landmarks of Edinburgh by Laurence Hutton | Illustrated Antique Hardcover

₹786.38

A beautiful piece of literary history dating to 1891, this antique copy of Literary Landmarks of Edinburgh was written by Laurence Hutton and published in New York by Harper & Brothers.

Rather than simply telling the history of Edinburgh, Hutton explores the city through its literary associations, taking readers through places connected with writers, historical figures and the literary culture for which Edinburgh became famous. The book is illustrated throughout, making it especially interesting for collectors of Scottish history, literary history, travel writing and 19th-century books.

The physical book is a collectible in its own right. It features a gorgeous green clothbound hardcover with elaborate black decorative artwork, a thistle motif and gilt spine lettering. The title page clearly dates this edition to 1891, making this copy approximately 135 years old.

Condition: Antique condition with age-appropriate wear. The green cloth boards show rubbing, spotting and wear, particularly along the corners and head of the spine. Pages display expected toning and occasional foxing associated with a book of this age. Please review photos carefully for the exact condition. The age-related imperfections are part of the character of this surviving 19th-century volume.

A wonderful shelf piece for a collector, but even better for someone who will actually open it and explore Edinburgh as readers did more than a century ago.
