Late 1800s | American Bible Society Bible | Antique Small Format Bible
A beautiful little antique Bible published by the American Bible Society in New York, likely dating to the late 19th century based on its format, binding and typography.
At roughly 4 × 6 inches, this was a personal sized Bible, made to be held, carried and read rather than displayed as a large family Bible. The original cover is still present, and the back portion of the binding remains attached. The front portion of the binding has separated from the text block, but importantly, all of the pages are still present.
The title page includes the wording “American Bible Society, instituted in the year 1816.” That refers to the year the Society was founded, not the publication year of this particular Bible, so I am intentionally listing this one without claiming an exact date.
What makes it special is simply its age and survival. This is a true antique book that has already lived through well over a century and still remains readable and largely complete. It would make a beautiful addition to a collection of antique Bibles, early American religious books, or historic printed works.
Condition: Antique condition with significant age related wear. Front portion of binding has separated from the text block. Original cover remains present and the back is still attached. All pages are present. No family inscriptions. Please review photos carefully for exact condition.
