1949 | The Swiss Family Robinson | J. R. Wyss | Charles Folkard Illustrated Hardcover
This is the 1949 J. M. Dent & Sons Children’s Illustrated Classics edition, illustrated by Charles Folkard with line drawings and 8 color plates. This series is especially pretty because the bindings and matching patterned endpapers were specially designed, and this copy has that orange adventure-themed cloth design throughout.
A beautiful 1949 illustrated edition of the classic adventure The Swiss Family Robinson. After becoming shipwrecked, a family must create a new life for themselves using ingenuity, courage, and whatever they can find on their island. This edition is particularly charming, with Charles Folkard’s color plates and illustrations paired with an incredible orange pictorial cloth binding and matching illustrated endpapers. A wonderful vintage reading copy that also looks gorgeous displayed on a shelf.
Condition: Good vintage condition. Decorative cloth boards remain bright and attractive with age-related wear, especially along the spine and corners. There is a split/fraying area near the top of the spine. Interior pages appear clean overall. Previous owner’s name and date are written on the front endpaper.
