1942 The Robe | Lloyd C. Douglas | Houghton Mifflin Hardcover with Original Dust Jacket

CHF 5.09

One of the bestselling historical novels of the 1940s, The Robe begins with a question: what became of the robe worn by Jesus before the crucifixion? Lloyd C. Douglas builds an epic story around Marcellus Gallio, the Roman soldier who wins Christ’s robe in a dice game and is drawn into a journey that changes everything he believes. Blending Roman history, adventure, faith, and historical fiction, this vintage wartime edition is especially striking with its original illustrated dust jacket and the “For Victory Buy United States War Bonds and Stamps” message on the back.

Condition:
Used, Fair. Binding remains intact and pages are complete and readable, but this copy shows substantial age and use. Red cloth boards have edge wear, fraying, and exposed cloth at the corners and spine ends. Front hinge is weakened with binding cloth visible at the gutter. Pages are heavily toned with scattered age spotting. Original dust jacket is present but in poor condition with heavy rubbing, creasing, tears, chipping, missing portions along the edges, and significant overall wear. Former library copy with library stamps and markings inside, including stamps on the title page and illustrated map endpapers. A worn but fascinating surviving wartime copy.
