1927 | The Human Body | Logan Clendening, M.D. | Illustrated Antique Medical Hardcover

CHF 16.96

This nearly 100 year old medical book is such a fascinating look at how the human body, health, disease, anatomy and physiology were understood in the 1920s. Written by physician Logan Clendening and published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1927, it is filled with detailed anatomical drawings, skeletal illustrations, historical medical imagery and diagrams throughout. The contents cover everything from digestion, circulation and the nervous system to reproduction, disease, cancer, immunity and death, making it just as interesting as a piece of medical history as it is visually beautiful.

This copy retains its original blue cloth boards with gold lettering and decoration. The pages show expected age toning and the exterior has light vintage wear. The major condition issue is the binding: the text block has separated from the front cover at the inner hinge, as shown in the photos. Pages remain together and the book can still be carefully handled and enjoyed, but it is being sold as a collectible/display copy in need of binding repair.

Edition: Alfred A. Knopf, New York and London, 1927 hardcover. The title page confirms 1927. A library catalog also records the original Knopf edition as 1927 with approximately 399 pages plus extensive illustrations.

Condition: Fair vintage condition. Significant front hinge/binding separation, age toning, light cover wear and fading. Interior illustrations remain beautifully preserved.
