2000 Perrault’s Fairy Tales | Folio Society | Edmund Dulac Illustrated | Fourth Printing
This book is 26 years old and in near perfect condition.
A gorgeous Folio Society edition of The Fairy Tales of Charles Perrault, illustrated by renowned Golden Age illustrator Edmund Dulac. This edition was published by The Folio Society in London in 1998; this particular copy is the fourth printing from 2000.
The collection brings together nine classic fairy tales, including The Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding-Hood, Blue Beard, Puss in Boots, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and several lesser-known tales. These are traditional literary versions rather than modern retellings, making this a beautiful book for someone interested in the history of fairy tales as well as a striking collectible edition.
One of the highlights is the artwork. The book contains richly reproduced color illustrations by Edmund Dulac, whose early 20th-century fairy-tale illustrations are highly collectible in their own right. The Folio Society reproduced the illustrations on quality paper and paired them with an ornate burgundy binding based on Dulac’s original design for My Days with the Fairies. The page edges are also colored burgundy, giving the book a particularly beautiful shelf presence.
Condition: Very good pre-owned condition with original Folio Society slipcase included. The decorative burgundy binding remains vibrant with beautiful gold and multicolor detailing, and the interior pages and Edmund Dulac color illustrations appear clean and well preserved. Light shelf or handling wear may be present consistent with age. Please review photos for exact condition.
