1963 The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot Heritage Press Illustrated Edition

$17.39 CAD

George Eliot’s The Mill on the Floss is a deeply emotional story about family, love, ambition, and the painful consequences of being unable to fit neatly into the life others expect for you.

At the center of the novel is Maggie Tulliver, an intelligent, passionate young woman growing up beside the River Floss with her beloved but very different brother Tom. Maggie longs for knowledge, independence, and a life larger than the one prescribed for her, but family loyalty, social expectations, financial hardship, and complicated relationships continually pull her in different directions. Her bond with Tom remains at the heart of the story, making this both a coming of age novel and a powerful portrait of sibling love, conflict, forgiveness, and sacrifice.

This handsome 1963 Heritage Press edition includes an introduction by David Daiches and color illustrations by Wray Manning. It also retains its original Heritage Club Sandglass booklet and slipcase, wonderful extras for anyone who enjoys collectible editions of classic literature.
