1948 | Three Roads to Valhalla | Catherine Pomeroy Stewart | Vintage Hardcover

R$15.25

A wonderfully atmospheric piece of midcentury historical fiction, Three Roads to Valhalla follows life in the American South after the Civil War, centering on family, relationships, difficult choices, and the social world left in the war’s aftermath. Published by Charles Scribner’s Sons in 1948, this vintage hardcover has the wonderfully understated look of an old library shelf classic, with dark cloth boards and gold spine lettering.

Despite the title, this is not a book about Norse mythology or the literal Valhalla. It is a post Civil War Southern novel, making it an interesting find for readers of vintage historical fiction and forgotten twentieth century novels. Contemporary listings describe the story as involving northern characters living on a Florida plantation after the Civil War.

Condition:
Fair to good vintage condition. No dust jacket. Dark cloth hardcover shows noticeable wear at the top of the spine, including fraying and loss, along with general shelf wear. Pages have expected age toning and scattered spotting. There is handwritten vintage notation on a rear blank page, apparently a list of names and dollar amounts. Binding remains intact
