1889 | A School History of the United States | David B. Scott | Antique Illustrated Textbook

R$50.83

A genuinely fascinating piece of American educational history, this 1889 school textbook shows how United States history was being taught to students more than 135 years ago.

Written by David B. Scott and published by Harper & Brothers, the book traces American history from European exploration and the colonial period through the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War and Reconstruction era. It also includes material on westward expansion, California and Oregon, U.S. presidents, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Throughout the book are period engravings, maps, review questions and detailed chapter summaries, making this especially interesting for collectors of antique textbooks, homeschool history resources and anyone curious about how American history was presented in the 19th century. Earlier editions of Scott’s textbook date to the 1870s, and bibliographic records confirm it was a long running school history published by Harper & Brothers.
